Pesticide
The Union County Extension Office supports safe, research-based, pesticide use and education for homeowners, farmers, commercial applicators. The Extension Office incorporates integrated pest management (IPM) into its education workshops, the Homestead & Farm Notes newsletter, and news releases. IPM uses biological control, sanitation, timing, exclusion, and other mechanisms to control pests before utilizing chemical control. IPM strategy is to keep pests below economic or other thresholds and minimize chemical control methods. When chemical control is needed, only labeled materials are recommended. The Tri-county Pesticide Update and the Tri-county Pesticide School, begun in 1990 in Lake Butler, has become a Baker, Bradford and Union county tradition.
