Upcoming Programs
North Florida Small Farms Working Group’s (NFSFWG) First Meeting at the Comet Farm, Worthington Springs, FL, on Tuesday, March 25.
On February 12, a group of Extension Agents and Small Farmers met to form a working group.
The idea was to build a community network of support for Small Farms. All producers, regardless of their varied and unique agricultural products would be included. An information network, collaboration with the Extension Service, and a more unified voice for agriculture production, (regardless of commodity or size) is envisioned. Practical, applied, hands-on methods in production information, marketing, processing, dealing with regulatory issues and other priority items were identified by the working group.
On Tuesday, March 25, starting at 4:00pm, the Comet Farm in Worthington Springs will be the first host of a workshop. Comet Farm is an organic farm run by Haley West and Scott Edmundson. Please read the enclosed detailed agenda.
Everyone who is interested in learning about organic farming, Integrated Pest Management, and becoming part of the Northeast Florida Small Farms Working Group is invited to attend.
Be sure to bring a dessert to share and serving utensils to serve. The Union County Extension Office will provide coffee, tea, water and paper goods. No meal will be provided, so the desserts are to tide us over till the end of the tour and program (near dark).
Directions to the farm are:
- From the intersection of SR 121 and CR 18 (in Worthington Springs) go west on CR 18.
- When you arrive to 102nd Avenue, turn south.
- Follow 102nd Avenue through the 4-way stop.
- About a ½ mile past the 4-way stop Comet Farm will be on your left. (The driveway is just past a yellow house and there is a stand of bamboo at the head of the drive).
- If you go down a big hill then you’ve gone too far.
